Nutritionists advise that we aim to eat 2-3 servings of oily fish (such as salmon or mackerel) each week to achieve the recommended Omega-3 intake.  Omega-3 fatty acids are not produced naturally by the body so must come from an external source.

Omega-3 and Omega-6 are two types of EFAs which are beneficial to the body when the levels of each are balanced. Studies have shown that many western diets are very low in Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), creating unbalanced levels - which is why a supplement may be beneficial.
